Subordinate Offices under IH Division

Activities of Airport Health Organizations (APHOs)
  1. Screening of international passengers for diseases under surveillance.
  2. Disinfection, disinsection and deratting of aircrafts.
  3. Supervision of sanitation, drinking water supply, anti-mosquito and anti-rodent work.
  4. Public Health clearance of dead bodies.
  5. Administration of yellow fever vaccine and issue yellow fever vaccination certificate at identified yellow-fever vaccination centres.
  6. Quarantine of passengers for Yellow fever disease.
  7. Attend to medical emergencies in flight and at airports.
  8. VVIP food inspection.
  9. Inspection of food stuff, catering establishments inside the premises of airport and ports under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act.
  10. Sampling of imported food items and forwarding the lab analysis report, as and when requested by custom authorities.
  11. Licensing of eating establishments within the local limits of airports as per the provisions of PFA Act, 1955.
  12. Coordination with National Focal Point, DGHS, MOHFW and counterpart POE in the event of a suspected PHEIC.
  13. Development of Capacities (manpower) for surveillance for following events at POEs:
    1. Chemicals
    2. Biological, Zoonotic
    3. Radio-nuclear
  14. Coordination for timely response by development of Contingency plans for each POE by
    1. Identification of Nodal persons at POEs.
    2. Trainings at POEs in above disciplines.
    3. Coordination with the existing manpower and resources for responding to PHEIC.

Activities of Port Health Organizations (PHOs)
  1. Port quarantine Work: The health check of passengers and crew of all ships arriving on International voyage.
  2. Public Health clearance of ships (Free pratique) including Issuance of Ship Sanitation Control Certificate and Ship Sanitation Control Exemption Certificate.
  3. Disinfection, disinsection and deratting of ships.
  4. Administration of yellow fever vaccine and issue of yellow fever vaccination certificate at identified yellow-fever vaccination centres..
  5. Periodical inspection of medicines, crew members on board.
  6. Supervision of sanitation, water supply and anti-mosquito and anti-rodent work inside the port.
  7. Public Health clearance of dead bodies.
  8. Licensing of eating establishments within the port terminal building as per the provision of FSSAI Act 2011.
  9. Coordination with National Focal Point, DGHS, MOHFW and counterpart POE in the event of a suspected PHEIC.
  10. Development of Capacities (manpower) for surveillance for following events at POEs:

    2. Biological, Zoonotic
    3. Radio-nuclear

Activities of Land Border Health Units(LBHU)
  1. Public health screening of international passengers for diseases under surveillance.
  2. Disinfection, disinsection and deratting of conveyances.
  3. Supervision of sanitation, drinking water supply, anti-mosquito and anti-rodent activities.
  4. Public Health clearance of dead bodies.
  5. Administration of yellow fever vaccine and issue of yellow fever vaccination certificate at identified yellow-fever vaccination centres.
  6. To attend to medical emergencies.

Activities of IH Division
  1. Coordinating with the Points of Entries i.e Airports, Ports, Land Border Crossings.
  2. Administrative and Financial control of PoE’s.
  3. Periodic review meetings and training activities.
  4. Formulating Technical Guidelines/Rules/Regulations/SoP’s in the field of International Health for PoE’s.
  5. Coordinating with the various stakeholders i.e MEA, MoCA, FSSAI, MHA, Ministry of Shipping etc.
  6. Yellow Fever Vaccination Centers on day to day working.
  7. Maintenance of the IHR PoE web portal (www.ihrpoe.co.in).
  8. Coordination with various stakeholders for Health needs during annual Haj pilgrimage.
  9. Technical inputs/comments on MoU’s in between countries, agenda items to World Health Assembly and other relevant technical documents etc.
  10. Technical Inputs for Medical Value Travel (MVT).
  11. Technical clearance for International Medical Conferences in the country.
